September has been a very exciting month with plenty of tasting opportunities set up by various organisers, most notably by James Suckling Wine Central. It was a true privileged to be able to taste alongside James Suckling and his team, being able to compare wines of Old World vs New World from Syrah to Cabernet Sauvignon and to Pinot Noir.
A big part of learning is tasting and tasting never stops as wineries constantly try and improve every aspect of their production to strive and make that perfect wine. The refinements in wine making was quite evident in recent years in response to the general trend of the wine consumption market. A great example were these young Barolos (2015-2017), still in their youths but are already quite accessible and drinking quite nicely.
Continuing with these Italian stars from the North, we moved our tasting to central Italy to try a collection of Super Tuscans from Castello del Terriccio, complemented by a 4 Course menu by Ciak - in the Kitchen. Of course the main attraction was their flagship wine, Lupicaia (of 1995, 2006, 2007, 2016 vintage) and they were all beautiful but the standout was the 2006, and 2016 is showing great potential as well. We will definitely stock some in the near future so keep an eye out on this development.
